MOC Modular 'Jewellery Quarter'

My first MOC modular

So I've covered converting an existing modular (albeit a non LEGO one) a few months back.

But I've finally gotten  around to building my own from scratch. Incorporating a few official sets and LOTS of other parts. I've finally gotten it to a point where it's ready to show off on here.

'Jewellery Quarter' as I've taken to calling it sits on a standard 32x32 base plate. And contains 2 separate Jewellery stores as well as treats stand and an apartment block. Based loosely around the shape of 'Assembly Square' the buildings are arranged in a 'C' shape with an open courtyard in the centre.

Most of the building is just an exterior at the moment and I will update later when I add the interior details.

The first of the 2 jewellery stores uses parts from set 70902 'Catwoman's Cycle Chase' Part of the LEGO Batman movie line. It's original incarnation was just a shop front but it is now expanded into a 2 story building in mostly brown. At just 6 studs wide it's a very small structure.

Some details include a green awning over the full length side windows. Flowers on the windowsills (A motif I continued throughout the build) and a black sloped roof designed to sit flat against an adjacent building.

The ice-cream and treats stand is adapted from a recently reviewed powerpuff girls set . It has been reconfigured a little to function as part of a building rather than a stand alone facade. The added detail of the lost cat sign on the right of the serving window is also taken from the Batman set  and there is a black door behind which is the staircase to the apartments.

Though they are currently empty of any internal decorations, the 2 floors of the apartment complex have been given some exterior details at least. All the windowsills have flowers, there is a balcony on the lower floor (the top floor is a fixed window and doesn't open) there are decorative arches over the front windows and I've added some decoration to the front facing roof.

The rooftop is pretty plain at the moment and the area that I feel needs improving the most. I put Huntress up there and a chimney and Water tower to just add some details.

The second jewellery store is largely unchanged from the original Powerpuff girls set it was taken from. The play feature of the original pop out window is still in place and the robot above the window has been added to a turntable piece enabling him to rotate. The corner door opens up onto the cream and white checkered courtyard area.

The table and umbrella is from the Pizza Van (set 60150) and is a good place for minifigs to stop and enjoy a tasty treat.

That's it for this update, but not for this building. This is basically a version 1 and I've already been redesigning large parts of it in my head.. stay tuned for more updates.

Thanks for looking as always..
