Turtle Power!
In my quest to revisit themes that I've missed out on, my latest quest is to add all the 4 Ninja Turtles to my city.
The LEGO TMNT theme ran from 2012-2014 before the license went to megabloks. Including polybags and promotions, it looks like there were around 20 releases. By no means I am going for a full set here, I have no interest in any minifigs based on the awful 2014 movie.
I'm also not chasing any villains in particular, just the 4 core heroes to hang out in my City is all I'm wanting.
Leonardo
First up is the self styled leader of the group. Master of the Kitana swords. The studious and serious minded Leonardo. Never my favourite of the crew, he was, nevertheless one the easiest to find, care of set 79118 Karai's Bike Chase
This is one of the sets based on the 2012 animated series, but the characters have been given the lego interpretation, and so look non-specific enough that could be from any earlier show or comic version.
Apart from Leo himself, we also have Karai, the daughter of Shredder is a great character and I'm happy to have her included here.
Both the hero and villain include swords, Karai's in black and Leo's in Silver, he only gets one though. Karai also comes with a canister of ooze.
Karai's hair piece is unique (at least I've not come across it myself) and she has alternate neutral and angry face prints.
In terms of a build, there isn't much here, we get a small grey plate upon which is a newspaper stand, fire hydrant, manhole cover tile and a street sign. There is also a foldable road barrier.
I've been wanting to add street signs to the city so this will at least come in handy, there is an action feature where leavering the street sign pops the front off the news stand.
Karai's black bike is just a standard frame built out with additional clips and weapons etc. There is a black bike helmet included too.
Not being a massive fan of the 2012 version of the Turtles, I'm not sure if this bike is from a specific episode? But it's always nice to have another vehicle for the city streets.
Leo gets a blue skateboard with a sticker featuring an apple on it, again not sure if this is from the show or not?
There is also a rope piece so Leonardo can give chase on his skateboard while attached to the bike!
So my first 'set' is fairly insubstantial, some extra scenery, and another vehicle for the city is welcome but more importantly we have our first hero in a half shell!!
Michelangelo
The Turtles resident party animal Mikey is up next, and this is another easy one to get as he was released in a poly bag which I believe was a giveaway.I paid just £2.99 including shipping for this which is the price of a regular CMF blind bag. The polybag also has a small build which is a remote control vehicle for Mikey.
Mikey only comes with the controller so I will need to find him a weapon at some point. And his face features his tongue out in concentration. The model van is nicely detailed for what it is, using green wedge pieces as a 'shell' it has a roof mounted cannon.
So in 2 small purchases, I'm already half way to my goal. I do know that Raphael and Donatello are a little harder to come by but I will update again once I've tracked them down for a good price.
Reunited! 2 to go. |
