Back again with another small MOC project, and today we are expanding Emma's Art Studio from LEGO friends.
I had previously built set 41365 along with daughter, who wanted to add it to the city.
I've had it sitting in this spot for a week or so (it's on jumper plates so can be easily removed) and although I think the aesthetics are a great fit, the open back style just doesn't work in that spot. So I decided to expand the build to double the depth and make it a full building.
I'm working with a limited supply of loose bricks in the LEGO friends colour scheme, so there may be an overuse of full length windows to fill out the sides.
On the ground floor I added another set of draws and used different coloured studs on top to represent more paints. Next to the draws there is a rack with a couple of white tiles to represent blank canvas' I moved the large easel to this area too and added another printed tile on the wall as another piece of artwork.
For the 1st floor I moved the 2 pictures from the main set on the left, they are joined by an extra paintbrush clipped on the wall. Above these is a butterfly on a black jumper plate representing a sculpture. On the right hand side I built a small brown desk, I built a telescope on an adjustable arm so Emma can engage in some amateur astronomy! There is also one of the friends laptops I had spare used here.
Lastly for the rooftop, I added a sun lounger with a side table, and a small flower garden. Combined with the umbrella covered table, it looks like a great place to chill out.
The back part is a completely stand alone build, I've built it like this so it doesn't effect play. I can remove the original set at any time so my daughter can still play with it as designed.
Both halves of the completed build are on jumper plates. Aside from the benefit of being easily removable for play, this also allows me to re-position the building so the front faces the road, or faces the park (currently a WIP)

Those of you following along on Instagram will know I wasn't sure about adding this style of open back building to the city.

So a quick and simple fix, that gives me a full building for the city without sacrificing the playability of the original set. If you have any thoughts/suggestions/ideas for improvement. Drop a comment here or on social media.
Thanks for looking as always....
