LEGO 76039 - Ant-Man final Battle

With it being a much smaller scale (sigh) movie than most of Marvel's other output, it seems fitting that LEGO only chose to release a single tie-in set for the MCU's best entry this year. This sub £20 set contains 3 minifigs, a giant ant, a pair of mini ants, some oversize LEGO pieces and a few other trinkets

Let's take a look

A quick comment on the new 'Super Jumper' stands TLG has introduced in many of its Marvel/DC sets, these figure launchers are terrible, I don't like them, my kids don't like them, and they don't work particularly well either. I find more use for them as stands for flying characters to give the illusion of levitation. Otherwise pretty useless.

The set itself is excellent though. The 3 minifigs (though not particularly movie accurate) are all nicely printed and detailed. It's nice to get both the Hank Pym and Scott Lang versions of Ant-Man in one set (Even though Pym only appears in costume during movie flashbacks). Both of the helmets seem more modeled on the comic book versions with the open mouths rather than full helmets, but the transparent eye pieces are a neat touch.

ANT-MAN: HANK PYM
Hank Pym has a darker version of the Ant-Man suit, nice printing on front torso and legs and also on the back. He comes with a 2-sided head I haven't come across before, but I doubt its a unique piece.

ANT-MAN: SCOTT LANG

Scott Lang comes with a suit closely resembling it's movie counterpart (apart from the helmet piece.) Again printing is excellent. He comes with a 2-sided head which is the same one used for Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars Rebels sets. The LEGO logo's on the oversize bricks are stickers, as are the cross heads on the top of the 2 oversize screws.

YELLOWJACKET
Yellowjacket is a superb figure and easily my favourite of the three included here... with some caveats. His backpack and stud shooters could be better designed, it unbalances the fig and makes him difficult to stand up unaided. A shame as the detailing on this one is superb. He's a visually striking as he is in the movie and his helmet piece is one of the best I've seen from LEGO this year.

ANTHONY!
Not going to lie here, Anthony's Death near the end of the movie upset me more than Quicksilver in Age of Ultron. So getting him here, in LEGO form was bittersweet. He's a nice build. Made in sections then clipped together. The wings, in particular are very well done and I think unique to this set.

So for a small set we get 3 unique minifigs which are all excellent, a very nice giant Ant to serve as Scott Lang's steed and a few play features. LEGO keeps delivering these sub £20 sets which deliver the goods. This is also a fairly simple build so even younger Marvel fans won't have any trouble. I loved this set and am hoping we get an Ant-Man sequel so i can have a Wasp minifig.
